As the air turns crisp and pumpkin spice takes over the world, why not let your horse join in on the fall festivities? These Trick-or-Treat Horse Cookies are packed with wholesome, horse-safe ingredients and the cozy flavors of autumn. They’re perfect for Halloween barn parties, post-ride snacks, or just showing your equine partner a little extra love.
Ingredients (Horse-Safe & Delicious)
1 cup rolled oats
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
½ cup pure pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling!)
1 tablespoon molasses
1 small carrot, grated
1 small apple, finely chopped
½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional – adds aroma, but skip if your horse is sensitive)
½ to ¾ cup whole wheat flour or oat flour (enough to form a dough)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, applesauce, and molasses until smooth.
Add in the grated carrot, chopped apple, and oats, stirring well.
Gradually mix in the flour until the dough holds together but isn’t sticky.
Roll small spoonfuls into balls or flatten them into “cookie” shapes.
Want to get festive? Use mini cookie cutters shaped like pumpkins, ghosts, or leaves!
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until firm and lightly golden.
Let cool completely before serving to your horse. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week—or freeze for longer storage.
