Free Rein Foundation: Volunteer!

FREE REIN IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTEER RUN. WE DEPEND HEAVILY ON OUR NETWORK OF OVER 150 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CARE FOR OUR RESCUED HORSES, FUNDRAISING, COMMUNITY OUTREACH, EVENT PRODUCTION, ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS, AND MARKETING.

INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR TEAM OF DYNAMIC VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO SAVING BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS FROM ABUSE AND HELPING PEOPLE THRIVE?

What it takes to be a volunteer at Free Rein:

• Complete Free Rein’s mandatory 2-hour orientation. Check the schedule below for upcoming events and sign-up online. Electronically sign and submit the Volunteer Forms below and pay $45 for processing and to confirm your place.




• Want to work directly with the rescued horses in the pasture for feeding, grooming and loving? You must complete Horsemanship Training 1 & 2. Trainings teach the fundamentals of horse handling. Cost for Horsemanship Training is a one-time fee of $200.

If working with the horses, you must be prepared to commit to a regular schedule each week of at least 2 hours one day a week. Times and days can be arranged with our volunteer coordinator. If you can’t make your scheduled work hours, it is your responsibility to find a replacement with another qualified volunteer. Our horses depend on our volunteers each week for love, feeding and grooming.

Want to volunteer, but not work with the horses? We have plenty of committees to help with fundraising, events, marketing, community outreach and administrative tasks. Orientation is required.

All orientation meetings will be held in the Free Rein office, located in the portable buildings at the HCPEC.

HORSEMANSHIP TRAINING PART 1 (Prerequisite Volunteer Orientation successful completion)

• Thursday, March 14, 4 to 6pm
• Thursday, April 11, 4 to 6pm
• Thursday May 9, 4 to 6pm

HORSEMANSHIP TRAINING PART 2 (Pre-requisite Volunteer Orientation & Horsemanship Part 1) A special guest will facilitate the last hour. Special guests vary from HB Equine Reiki, Bekah’s Equine Massage, and learning about of different types of hoof and leg conditions.

• Sunday, April 21, 10am to 1pm
• Sunday, May 19, 10am to 1pm

After completion of all three workshops, volunteers receive a certificate of completion, are considered alumni and may attend any of the trainings on a donation basis (horse grooming supplies, storage materials, fly masks, fly boots, buckets, first aid kits, items for earthquake kits, etc.) There are no renewal fees.
